Eurasian Economic Union expects significant increase in agricultural output in 2023
This year, we expect a significant increase in agricultural output in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin told the media after a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 3 February, BelTA has learned.

"We considered the issues of food security and increasing the level of self-sufficiency across the main commodities. This year, we expect an increase in agricultural output in U.S. dollar terms by more than 20% year-on-year. Now we fully meet the domestic demand for such goods. We should actively develop the export mechanism, including within the framework of the Eurasian Agroexpress project. This project was launched less than a year, but it has transported almost 500,000 tonnes of cargo thanks to accelerated rail transportation, ," Mikhail Mishustin said.

According to him, the union is now considering a possibility of connecting new countries to the project and lifting restrictions on supplies to China. "Relevant proposals have been submitted to the Eurasian Economic Commission. This will also make a significant contribution to solving the problems of expanding the export potential of our agricultural producers," he emphasized.
