Belarusian Government Will Allocate About Million Dollars To Fight COVID-19

The Belarusian government has instructed the Ministry of Finance to allocate BYN 2,351,413 from the budget for measures to prevent the importation and spread of infection caused by COVID-19.

The news was made public by the press service of the Council of Ministers. Money will be allocated from the funds provided in the republican budget for financing expenses related to natural disasters, accidents and catastrophes.

The Ministry of Health will receive 1,574,120 rubles (~$605,985; €559,672), including 450,120 rubles (~$173,281, €160,038) for the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

The budget of the Vitebsk region will receive 143,183 rubles (~$55,120, €50,917), the budget of Minsk – 634,110 rubles (~$244,111, €225,494). The corresponding decision is embedded in Resolution of the Council of Ministers of March 21, 2020 No. 163.



Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health announced the opening of a special charity account. Anyone willing to support medics fighting coronavirus in Belarus can transfer money to it.

“We welcome the support of society and will be able to use charitable assistance to purchase equipment for laboratory diagnostics of COVID-19, diagnostic kits, protective means, medications, as well as to provide assistance to patients,” the press service of the Ministry of Health reports.

The account was opened in a public institution Republican Center for Medical Response Organization. Funds received will be allocated in accordance with the needs of specific health care institutions in coordination with the Ministry of Health.
