Belarus’ IT sector plays almost a similar role in the country's economy as agriculture, the transport industry and the production of construction materials, Minister of Economy Dzmitry Krutoi said. More than half of the country’s economic growth was provided by the IT sector last year, he stressed.
IT services account for 6.5% in the general structure of the GDP.
"Given by the rate of growth demonstrated by our IT companies, this is a big figure,” sb.by quotes the Minister as saying. “The development of the IT sector continues and is supported in every way.”
Belarus has become one of the Eastern European and CIS leaders in software export, Belarusian Prime Minister Siarhei Rumas said during his visit to Russia in October.
The export by Belarus Hi-Tech Park is expected to total $2 billion in 2019, according to Mr. Rumas.
