Opposition activists in Brest on June 24 distributed flyers promoting the United Pro-democratic Forces' anti-crisis program. The flyers were distributed at the crowded Kavalyova, Uskhod and Tsentralny markets between noon and 3 p.m.
The purpose was to inform Brest residents about the opposition coalition's proposals and show how the coalition helps solve local problems, Valyantsin Lazaronkaw, deputy head of the Brest regional organization of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party "Hramada" (BSDP), told BelaPAN.
"Brest residents displayed an interest in what the coalition suggests," Mr. Lazaronkaw said. "Moreover, they expressed bewilderment at the government's failure to devise an anti-crisis program. Judging by what we heard from passers-by, almost all of them had already been affected by the crisis, especially pensioners, students and people with many children or with low income. In general, people fear that the situation may deteriorate further."
More than 2,000 flyers were handed out on Wednesday, Mr. Lazaronkaw said. The coalition's anti-crisis program had never before been promoted in Brest in this way, he said. Local BSDP activists will continue distribute flyers, targeting young people, pensioners and small business owners, he said.
