Russia’s consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has nearly doubled the number of Belarusian dairy product titles that may be imported by Russia, RIA Novosti said.

While talking to reporters on June 22, Rospotrebnadzor head Gennady Onishchenko said that the agency would lift its ban on the import of 134 titles on Tuesday. Belarus was allowed to supply 139 titles of dairy products to Russia as of Monday.

In early June, Rospotrebnadzor banned the import of nearly all Belarusian dairy products, citing the producers’ failure to meet Russia’s new food standards in effect since December 2008.

On June 17, Russia announced that the ban was about to be lifted and that the two countries had signed a protocol that would "satisfy both sides."

Under the protocol, the certificates that were issued earlier and suspended in early June will be regarded as valid until dairy products supplied from Belarus to Russia are certified as meeting Russia’s new standards.
