The Energy Ministry has no plans to resume electricity imports in 2019, Energy Minister Viktar Karankevich said on Friday, reports BELTA.

In 2018, Belarus for the first time since independence did not import electricity, mainly due to the upgrade of the existing power plants and the production of cheap energy from local sources. Our country also increased electricity exports during this year.

Since early 2018, Belarus’ electricity output grew 11.6% up to 38.3 billion kWh, including over 34.4 billion kWh produced by the power plants operated by the state monopoly Belenergo.
