The rocket fire system “Polonez” is designed to destroy openly located and concealed manpower, unarmored and armored military equipment, artillery, rocket and anti-aircraft missile systems, aviation equipment at home-based airfields and other objects at a range from 50 km to 300 km with high accuracy.

Minsk and Baku have military-industrial complexes that are dynamically developing and can significantly complement each other. In addition, the two countries have similar political regimes, and Alyaksandr Lukashenka can easily find a common language with Ilham Aliyev during bilateral meetings.

Azerbaijan became an enemy of Armenia since the collapse of the Soviet Union — there was a bloody conflict between the countries over the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh. The region was officially part of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, but it had non-heterogeneous ethnic composition. As a result, local Armenians began to seek secession from Azerbaijan, mutual ethnic cleansing began, followed by full-scale hostilities.

In 2016, Russia supplied the Iskander-E operational tactical missile systems to Armenia with a range of up to 280 km. Thus, Armenia gained a significant advantage over Azerbaijan in the field of high-precision rocket artillery. Azerbaijan, in turn, began to look for ways to counter this threat.
