More people have emigrated from Belarus since 2014 than immigrated into it, the official statistics provided by Belstat shows.
The number of emigrants from Belarus has been growing for three years in a row.
The number of departures exceeded 9,800 in 2015, raising by about 3000 people the following year. It continued to grow and reached over 15,000 people in 2017.
In the meantime, the number of arrivals has been decreasing – from over 28,000 people in 2015 to a little less than 19,000 arrivals in 2017.
Most arrivals to Belarus fall on CIS states (13,305 of 18,961 last year), with Russia and Ukraine topping the list. Among the European states, Belarus is most popular with Germans, Lithuanians and Poles. The number of immigrants from the U.S. exceeded 400 people.
In 2017 over 700 people arrived to Belarus from China and over 600 – from Iran.
Also, over 238,000 persons migrated inside the country last year. The population of Belarus made 9.4 million people in 2017, with over 1.9 million living in Minsk.
