Uber will open an R&D centre in Hi-Tech Park (HTP) Belarus and cooperate with the Belarusian IT hub on self-driving cars. The relevant agreement was signed on Wednesday by HTP Director Vsevolod Yanchevsky and Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, Head of Operations European, Middle East and African (EMEA) at Uber.
Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty held talks with Vsevolod Yanchevsky and the Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov in Minsk on 24 May.
“We are very satisfied with results of negotiations. We know that Belarus President Mr. Lukashenko pays close attention to the development of high technologies. It is a good sign for us and other international companies. Today Uber and the Hi-Tech Park signed an agreement on cooperation in a number of fields,” the head of Uber’s EMEA division was quoted by the media.
“It is my first visit to Belarus but I think I will have many reasons to come here rather often,” Gore-Coty said.
The head of HTP Belarus said he believes that Belarus should be in the forefront of technological developments.
“This cooperation gives Belarus a chance to be one of the first countries in the world to launch first self-driving vehicles in the future,” Yanchevsky said.
