The EU is ready to help Belarus invite foreign investors, but only if the country carries out thorough reforms, Vassilis Maragos, Head of the Unit at the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission.
“This will be an addition to what Belarus will do through the policy reforms and creating its own reputation and [favourable] conditions for investors,” the EU official stressed. The issue will be discussed at the forum ‘Expanding Horizons: Investment, Finance and Development’.
The experts will discuss and assess Belarus’ steps towards the implementation of fundamental human rights, the representative of the European Commission said.
According to Vassilis Maragos, the European Union welcomes the fact that Belarus has taken significant steps towards reforms, improvements in the business environment and investment climate.
He also expressed hope that the Belarusian professionals and specialist would have a better command of foreign languages in the future.
