Russia plans no gas discount for Belarus

Euroradio

Russia is not planning to give a gas discount to Belarus at the moment, Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak announced on Friday. He is planning to meet with the Belarusian Minister of Energy within a week. They will discuss fuel prices, RIA Novosti reports.

Novak also claimed that Belarus owed more than 125 million dollars to Gazprom for January-April, Euroradio reported earlier. The sum keeps increasing. There is no debt and the problem is in the different interpretation of the interstate agreements on gas, Belarusian Minister of Energy Uladzimir Patupchyk believes. The issue may have to be settled in court, Patupchyk said.

Belarus bought Russian gas for $142.4 for one thousand cubic meters last year. Minsk is hoping to get a ‘fair’ discount now – $73. However, the two states have not reached an agreement on it so far.
