The imports of potatoes are temporarily restricted by Belarus effective from July 10, according to Russian media reports.
Russian news agency RIA Novosti quotes a source at the Belarus Ministry of Agriculture who reportedly said that restrictions apply to early riping breeds of potatos. "Belarus crops sufficient volumes of late riping potatoes to meet the domestic demand and sell abroad," said the official.
It remains unclear how long the ban will be in place. Russia introduced a ban on the imports of Ukrainian potatoes back in in mid-June. Media reports suggest that Russia has made numerous requests that Belarus follow Russia with the same measures.
